Sanger Sequencing

The Gold Standard of DNA Sequencing

Sanger sequencing also known as Chain termination sequencing or Dideoxy sequencing method is a DNA sequencing technique that targets a specific region of interest in the genome to identify the sequence of the nitrogen bases. It is a robust testing strategy for accurate detection of point mutations and small deletion/duplications. It is considered the first-generation sequencing technique developed in the year 1975 and stays a gold standard method till date.

Applications –

  1. Sequencing a particular genomic region is large number of samples
  2. Validating the Next-generation sequencing results
  3. Identifying single disease-causing genetic variants
  4. HLA subtyping and many other research purposes.
